These 3 Trends will make up the Coolest Tech Jobs in 2019

5 years ago #Fun

Hoverboards, robots, self driving cars… do you conjure up these items in your mind when you think about the future?  Well, these objects already exist – the future is now!  The question is: what’s next?

With technological advancements evolving at rapid speed, it is difficult to discuss the trends before they are already developed.  The sector of information technology is simultaneously wild, yet predictable if you pay close enough attention.  With a new year upon us – a fresh slate for technology lovers – there are bound to be mind-blowing new inventions and evolutions of existing machineries.  Not only will these new objects bring us hours of entertainment and ease in our daily life; they will also open up new jobs in the IT sector.  By looking at the predictions of the trends for 2019, we can predict new job positions that will also emerge at the same pace as their accompanying technologies.  Our consultants at EyeTech solutions constantly keep an eye on the trends in the IT job market – if you’re looking for a new challenge, check out our current vacancies here

To understand the new jobs that are emerging, we have to look at the top 3 technological trends that are on watch for 2019.

VR and AR (Virtual and Augmented Reality)

You’ve probably seen some YouTube videos of people playing a VR game and completely believing they’re immersed in a new world… or maybe you remember seeing teenagers catching virtual Pokemon in random places via the AR game Pokemon GO.  It’s powerful stuff!  Not only is this technology used for entertainment; it is influential enough to be used in training material for new people on their jobs.  Think of a pilot sitting in the cockpit and landing their plane dozens of times through a virtual reality set up before leaving the ground for the first time.   The company Honeywell uses a combination of VR and AR to protect their employees from safety hazards and to connect them to guidance materials if they need assistance.

Clearly, VR and AR advancements are brewing and we can expect to see a lot more of them in 2019.  Big players like Google and Samsung surely have some new projects under wraps, but there are plenty of start-ups popping up in this field as well.  Monster.com reports that vacancies open for people with experience in Virtual Reality projects are up 37% (December 2018) – if you’re interested in this field, now is the time to invest in learning more about VR and AR to secure a new position in this relatively new field.

Blockchain

It sounds tough and intimidating, and tough it is; blockchain is a technology which allows maximum security practices.  The intimidating part is up to you.  If you can learn this technology, you’re in luck as the demand for candidates with blockchain experience is up 6000% according to Upwork (October 2018).  When you think of Blockchain you might think of Bitcoin right away, but due to its secure nature, blockchain technologies can be used in other fields too.  If you’ve had an interest in this technology, consider spending some time sharpening your skills and take the job market by storm in 2019.

Machine Learning

Machine learning is a subset of AI (artificial intelligence) – but if you’re reading this article, you’re interested in information technology, and therefore you most likely know all about AI.  A specific part of it like machine learning is much more interesting for someone keen on AI because it itself can also be broken down into further subsets, meaning there are many areas in which you can master machine learning and land a new position!

What is machine learning exactly?  It refers to the teaching of machines new things that they were not previously programmed to do.  It allows machines (like robots) to learn on their own by recognising patterns and analyzing data.  Cool… or scary?  Either way, machine learning is upon us and it’s best to take advantage of this sector in the job market.  LinkedIn reports that jobs in machine learning rank as one of their most popular categories on the market now (December 2018).  What skills are needed?  Programming languages, probability statistics, data modelling, distributed computing, and machine learning algorithms to name a few.  This emerging field is exciting and worth keeping an eye on in 2019.

Of course, there are countless other trends in information technology on the rise this year – too many to mention in this article – and still some that are unpredictable.  If you’re interested in staying up to date in the world of IT, you need to seek out sources yourself and make your own inferences on what might be next.
